PFL stands as a beacon of excellence in the Irish floor-covering distribution landscape. Established over four decades ago by the Haugh family in 1974, PFL has continuously supported flooring retailers and contractors across various sectors. With depots in Limerick, Dublin and Belfast, it remains the largest Irish-owned independent floor-covering distributor in the country.
In 2022, PFL acquired a 100,000 sq ft building complex at Delta Retail Park, Limerick, envisioned as a state-of-the-art high-bay warehousing facility and a new phase of growth for the company. The challenge was to relocate PFL’s existing Limerick Head Office to this new site at Delta Business Park, creating a space that accommodated the company’s expanding operations while incorporating a modern design centre to showcase the latest products in the flooring industry.
To navigate this transition, PFL enlisted Carr Associate Architects. Led by architect Sinead Wilmott, the team reimagined the showrooms and lobby area, with a vision to integrate a wall feature that exuded natural charm while prominently featuring PFL branding. Using Vistafolia artificial green walls, sourced from Surface Wow, Sinead created a solution that blended aesthetics with functionality. Vistafolia’s naturalistic appeal and customisable design, combined with its 3-panel system, allowed seamless coverage with no visible joins or repetitive patterns — the ideal backdrop for a striking vertical garden that adds greenery without ongoing maintenance.
The result was a resounding success. The Vistafolia feature, framed within the lobby entrance, accentuated the PFL branding and became a focal point that captivated visitors on arrival. Local company Brandmonster complemented the feature with lighting and furnishings that elevated the lobby’s ambience. Sinead also incorporated Vistafolia panels into troughs within the main showroom, creating a natural flow through the public areas and reinforcing the space’s overall aesthetic and functionality.
The project demonstrates Vistafolia’s versatility in transforming ordinary spaces into visually striking environments. The collaboration between PFL, Carr Associate Architects and Surface Wow has resulted in a dynamic workspace that meets PFL’s operational needs while setting a new standard for design excellence in the flooring industry.
