McCabe Design, led by Barry McCabe, is a multi-disciplinary studio delivering creative solutions since 1989, spanning retail, interior, hospitality and exhibition design.

For this project, Barry and the team were tasked with creating a retail environment that reflected the ethos of Bear Market Coffee — one of Dublin’s first specialty coffee brands, founded in 2009 and now spanning seven locations across the city. The brief called for a space that balanced functionality with strong visual impact, while incorporating environmentally responsible materials that enhanced acoustics.

To achieve this, McCabe Design selected Evergreen Moss from Surface Wow to create a striking feature wall. The preserved moss wall panels formed a natural focal point, introducing texture, colour and softness while balancing the clean lines of birch plywood joinery with organic, biophilic elements.

As part of a broader moss wall design, the indoor moss walls are made from 100% genuine preserved reindeer moss — completely maintenance-free, requiring no watering, feeding or natural light. Beyond their visual appeal, the panels function as effective interior green wall panels, absorbing up to 90% of sound, making them an ideal solution for a high-traffic coffee shop environment.
