Ulster University
Product: SL Ocean – The Dazzler range
Location: Sandyford, Co. Dublin, Ireland
Off The Wall Creative partnered with the University of Ulster to enhance its Welcome Week experience through striking, immersive installations using the Surface Wow Dazzler Range, transforming key campus areas and driving meaningful student engagement.
The university’s Marketing and Communications Lead approached Off The Wall with an ambitious brief: create a high-impact environment that would capture students’ attention and energise the campus. Two concepts were identified — an immersive selfie walkway transforming a corridor in the BC building, which had to be fully removable and wall-friendly with no damage to the existing structure, and a UU Portal, inspired by the New York/Dublin Portal, using colourful framed screens and webcams to let students connect in real time across campuses. With Welcome Week fast approaching, the project demanded rapid planning and flawless execution, coordinating screens, computers and interactive elements while keeping the design clean and visually compelling.
To bring the vision to life, Off The Wall Creative specified the Surface Wow Dazzler Range, a high-impact reflective wall panel solution suited to immersive environments. The vibrant Dazzler wall panels transformed the corridor into a dynamic, high-energy walkway, their mirror finish amplifying light and movement to draw students into the space, while being simple to install and remove as required. Colourful portal frames housing screens and webcams complemented the walkway, encouraging real-time connection between campuses and reinforcing the theme of community throughout Welcome Week.
The project exceeded expectations: the Dazzler panels significantly elevated the Welcome Week experience, and what was planned as a temporary feature proved so popular that the walls and portals remained in place beyond the event, with overwhelmingly positive feedback from students, staff and senior leadership. As the university’s Marketing and Communications Lead put it: “This was a massive undertaking, and your dedication made it a success. I’ve truly enjoyed working with you all.”
The collaboration demonstrates the power of bold design combined with the right materials — not just meeting the brief, but creating a lasting, visually dynamic environment that continues to engage the university community.
