Houston Office, based in Cork, a family business founded in 1921, has a long history in office supplies and equipment, more recently expanding into office furniture and interiors. Under the leadership of Seán, Ursula and their son Bryan, the company has become a trusted name in the industry, with Houston Office Interiors — its specialised division — building a reputation for personalised service, expert advice and exceptional value on furniture, design and fitout projects across Ireland.
The project’s challenge was to revitalise an outdated, heavily trafficked office and reception area at a prestigious third-level college in Cork, creating a more modern, inviting space that better represented the institution. Houston’s Office Interiors undertook a comprehensive redesign covering lighting, electrical work, plumbing, painting, flooring, furniture, seating, acoustic panels and storage, working with expert subcontractors to deliver a contemporary, welcoming space. Renowned colour coordinator and interior designer Maura Mackey played a key role in crafting a unique wall feature combining Wow Wall Concordia panels with an Evergreen Moss diamond panel.
Wow Walls Concordia, a versatile material for enhancing commercial spaces, was chosen to create a striking, impressive first impression, with full-height walls illuminated by added lighting greeting visitors on arrival at reception. Evergreen Moss, a 100% genuine moss panel, brought a natural touch to the design, with easy installation and zero maintenance making it ideal for bringing the outdoors in — while its acoustic properties, absorbing up to 90% of ambient sound, helped promote a calmer, more productive environment.
The client was delighted with the quality of the work and the punctuality of the subcontractors, and especially pleased with how well the revamped space was received by visitors — appreciating the functionality of a clean, brightly coloured and coordinated workspace.
