Garry Cohn from Cohn Design was tasked with creating a residential space that felt deeply connected to nature, blurring the boundary between indoors and the garden beyond — a brief calling for a natural, seamless flow, texture and warmth, and a genuine wow moment.
To achieve this, the team selected Current from Wonderwall Studios, supplied by Surface Wow. Crafted from reclaimed teak sourced from abandoned houses, Current brings sustainability, story and material honesty into the space, with each 700 x 500mm panel creating a fluid, organic surface whose pattern evokes waves, petals or moving water. Working alongside Garry, the team at Ian James Design used expert joinery to transform the panels into a striking feature wall that anchors the space.
Beyond the teak feature wall, two further Surface Wow cork finishes layer additional natural texture into the design. CorkDelaunay 2D, from the Gencork range, adds subtle geometric texture while maintaining a calm, tactile quality that softens the room’s architectural lines, while Rusticork Bark introduces raw, organic character, reinforcing the connection to nature and adding further warmth.
Together, these materials create a balanced composition of movement, texture and comfort, proving that statement surfaces don’t need to feel overpowering in a home. The wood feature wall draws the eye immediately, while the cork elements quietly support the narrative of natural luxury, resulting in a space that feels considered, inviting and unique — a true wow moment that shows how these materials work just as powerfully in residential interiors as in commercial spaces.
