Transforming a residential area into a Cork oasis!
Vyvyan Byrne is the Creative Director at Vyvyan Byrne. Vyvyan believes now, more than ever, people crave and need spaces that are not just functional or ‘on trend’ but spaces that resonate with them, tells ‘their’ story. Therefore, it is important to create a concept that works for them on many levels whether it is home, office, hotel lobby, bistro or restaurant design.
The Challenge:
Vyvyan was tasked by her clients to change what was once a young family games room, into a functional grown-up entertaining room.
What struck Vyvyan straight away about this room was the view out to the beautifully landscaped garden and a gorgeous tiki style pergola, which was handmade by the client’s husband.
Her clients expressed how much they love their garden, the tiki style pergola and all the travel they’ve done. These factors all speak to the design.
When concept developing, Vyvyan always takes into account the function of the space. When people begin renovating, it is usually because the scheme is tired, it’s outdated or it doesn’t function the way it needs to function anymore.
The Solution:
The room already had beautiful, reclaimed brick on three walls in the space that added warmth and texture and Vyvyan wanted to layer up on this texture. She also wanted to connect the space to the beautiful garden and tiki pergola. Very quickly a wild tropical concept began to emerge. Vyvyan’s clients already had a strong creative flair and were not afraid to make bold decisions to bring this concept to life.
The double height wall in this room lent itself perfectly to become a feature wall. Vyvyan introduced her clients to some of the natural surfaces available through Surface Wow and immediately they loved the RustiCork bark. A showroom visit to Surface Wow was arranged so that they could touch and see the product in reality because seldomly the screen does it justice.
RustiCork Bark:

The Result:
Vyvyan came up and a totally unique and bespoke deign and totally captured the ethos that her client was looking for. A free hand wave halfway up with a striking wall colour at the top to really set off the bark. She then added some beautiful led lighting to blend the two surfaces together with light. Clever use of light and shape has made this a unique and bespoke talking point.
As this area will be used for many social events the RustiCork Bark will also function as a brilliant acoustic tool dampening airborne sound and noise.
Conclusion:
Vyvyan and her clients were delighted with the end result.
